Several hours short of one year since last summer season started, I’m finally putting the finishing touches on ×365. It feels strange to be this late, having worked so much with GG and being used to sub-30h turnaround, but this is apparently a Spoon speed record too.
It’s certainly been the oddest workflow of any series I’ve touched, from my first abortive attempts to effectively anonsub it, visible in the beginnings of the ADTRW thread, through begging my way into Spoon as QC/TLC based on reports of eps 1 and 2, completely failing to fix those few things I noticed even for the DVD versions. At one point I actively translated and ran check while in flight, with those wonderful fansubbing tools of a PSP and a pencil, and most recently this ep is partially brought to you by a lack of anything to do during a power outage.
Anyway, about this ep:
The OP uses the second verse, just like the first series special used the second verse of Sketch Switch. Miya’s meal this time is flounder, and the handwritten text takes the normal pattern, just changed for the second verse.
Japanese has a glorious term for this kind of thing: “dresser fertilizer.” Miya even manages to make it into a completely untranslatable pun.
As much as I normally hate using loanwords, “traditional festival or livery shortcoat” is just too awkward. Think Nayuki’s coat from Kanon, or something like these.
I wonder whether someone at SHAFT has always really liked the Gift of the Magi, or if they just got the idea to reference it here after also using it for a gag in GSZS3.
I think this is the best typo I’ve ever made, if only for the mental images of a Hidamari/Vinland Saga crossover.
When players are placed on waiver in baseball, first pick typically goes to the team with the worst record; Miya expects to lose and then get first pick.
This is just plain probably the best Miya line ever.
Anyway, that’s a hell of a relief finally being done (until they announce the next DVD special’s release date.) You can probably also expect eps 12 and 13 DVD out in the immediate future.

9b-11 are also in process; 12-13 are just the ones that fall dirlectly under my responsibility at the moment.
Technically I suppose I should’ve waited for 12 to release this, but I wanted to make it within the arbitrary one-year deadline.
