So I tried translating Eden 9 while I was that special kind of tired you can only be after lying in bed half-awake from allergy meds for 16 hours.
1:48:05 Mandoric > can i go back to bed.= 1:48:28 切断しました ←this was a kill that I think just read "No."
As has become profoundly obvious, this was a mistake.
Problem A: 「これから何十万 何百万という人間をミサイルで消滅させんとする英雄が人 一人 ひいたくらいでビビってるんじゃないよ。」 / “For the hero who’ll be preventing hundreds of thousands, millions of people from being wiped out by missiles, taking one human life shouldn’t give you cold feet.”
Googled to double-check myself on 「消滅させんとする」, found a couple things using it that seemed to involve D-boy and Emeraude, didn’t pay enough attention to the actual context. My inability to recognize ん as the old conjugation む rather than clipped or slurred ない was also how I managed to fuck up the whole Messiah thing in ep 1; at this point I should have realized.
Thus, “The hero who’ll be wiping out hundreds of thousands, no, millions of people with missiles shouldn’t get cold feet about taking just one human life.”
Problem B: 「電源どころか 契約とうに切れとるじゃないかい」 / “The power ran out again!”
I don’t know why I thought he was trying to be idiomatic here I should know とう I was so happy about how useful it’d be for sounding oldfaggish when I figured it outfor GSZS3 OP.
So, “Never mind the power, even the contract’s run out!”
Problem C: 「質問しとった野党議員にはホンマの情報 つかましといて情報ソースだけ 愛人からのメールじゃっちゅうことにすり替えたんじゃ…。」 / “And when the questioning opposition MP was catching onto the truth, his intelligence source was replaced with a mail from his lover…”
Yes, another really amateur fuckup. As Kansai-ben goes, even though when I call the shots with my direct line to Juiz its use will be restricted to Ri Kohran, Inagawa Yuu, and perhaps Hoshina Tomoko, じゃっちゅう is really fucking obvious だという.
Go for “his intelligence source was a mail supposedly from his lover.”
Of course, MPs who take a time-out from Question Time to check on their mistresses but wouldn’t have even thought of opening mail from a random SDF higher-up make a really, really good argument for Takizawa’s desire to remake the system.
Not-a-Problem A: “Vintage”
Panties decided to nickname Akira after his vintage jeans.
Not-a-Problem B: “Yuuki”
When compared, romanization-wise, with Ohsugi. I had completely bungled this one, and the person who fixed it was worried about a mismatch, but Oh is o-specific and basically a matter of taste anyway.
At any rate, expect v2 soon or something.
Very nice blog, your article is interesting, i have bookmarked it for future referrence
